Description

A quick and delicious Chili Pizza Bread recipe that combines savory chili, vegetables, and melted cheeses on crispy garlic toast. Perfect for a flavorful snack or a light meal, this dish is ready in just 25 minutes and serves four.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables and Chili

  • 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 15 oz canned chili
  • 1 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 4 oz canned mushrooms (pieces and stems)
  • 1 cup canned diced tomatoes (drained)

Bread and Cheese

  • 1 garlic toast (or french bread)
  • 2 Tbsp parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Other

  • Oil for cooking onions (about 1 tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the broiler: Set your oven broiler to high and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for toasting the chili bread.
  2. Cook the onions: Heat a bit of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat, then add the chopped yellow onions and sauté until softened and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add chili and vegetables: Stir in the canned chili, canned mushrooms, chopped bell pepper, and drained diced tomatoes. Cook the mixture for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently to blend flavors and heat through.
  4. Prepare the bread: Place the garlic toast or sliced french bread on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon the hot chili mixture evenly over each side of the bread.
  5. Add cheese and broil: Sprinkle parmesan cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese generously on top of the chili-covered bread. Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the oven and broil for 2-4 minutes, watching carefully, until the cheese melts and the garlic bread becomes crispy and toasted.
  6. Serve: Remove from oven, slice if using French bread, and serve immediately while the bread is hot and the cheese bubbly.

Notes

  • Keep a close eye while broiling as cheese can burn quickly.
  • You can substitute the garlic toast with a fresh baguette for a crunchier texture.
  • Adding a pinch of chili flakes can enhance the spiciness for those who prefer heat.
  • For a vegetarian version, ensure the canned chili is meat-free.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in an oven or toaster oven for best texture retention.
