Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (Halal)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 medium potatoes, diced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (Halal version)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish
- Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preparation: Gather and prepare all ingredients by chopping the onions, mincing the garlic, and dicing the potatoes.
- Cook Ground Beef: In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary to keep the soup from being greasy.
- Sauté Aromatics: Add chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot with the cooked beef. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onions become translucent and fragrant, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- Add Potatoes: Toss in the diced potatoes, stirring well to combine all ingredients in the pot. Cook for another 2 minutes to begin softening the potatoes.
- Add Broth and Simmer: Pour in the beef broth. Increase heat to bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to low heat. Cover the pot and let the soup simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Add Dairy and Cheese: Lower the heat to very low. Stir in the milk and shredded cheddar cheese. Continue stirring until the cheese melts completely and the soup achieves a creamy consistency.
- Season the Soup: Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir well and allow the soup to simmer for an additional 5 minutes on low heat so the flavors meld beautifully.
- Serve: Ladle the hot soup into bowls and garnish with chopped green onions or any other preferred toppings. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For a thicker soup, you can mash some of the potatoes while simmering.
- Use low-fat milk or a milk alternative for a lighter version.
- Halal Worcestershire sauce is used to keep the recipe fully Halal compliant.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
