  • Author: Lila
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Description

Celebrate the 4th of July with these festive and indulgent Oreo truffles coated in white candy melts and decorated with red and blue sanding sugar. These no-bake, creamy treats are easy to make ahead and perfect for patriotic gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Base

  • 1 standard package Oreo cookies, crushed into fine crumbs
  • 8 oz full-fat cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 pinch sea salt, to enhance flavor

Coating and Decoration

  • 12 oz white candy melts
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil, to smooth the coating
  • Red sanding sugar, for festive decoration
  • Blue sanding sugar, for festive decoration

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or by hand until no large pieces remain, ensuring a smooth truffle texture.
  2. Mixing: Combine the crushed Oreos with the room temperature cream cheese and a pinch of sea salt in a mixing bowl. Stir thoroughly until a cohesive dough-like mixture forms.
  3. Shaping: Roll the mixture into bite-sized balls, approximately 1 inch in diameter, for perfect truffle portions.
  4. Chilling: Place the Oreo balls on a tray and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow them to firm up and hold their shape during coating.
  5. Melting Coating: Gently melt the white candy melts with the coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 30-second intervals and stirring until smooth and fluid for easy dipping.
  6. Dipping: Dip each chilled Oreo ball into the melted white candy coating, ensuring it is fully covered. Use a fork or dipping tool to lift and let excess coating drip off.
  7. Decorating: Immediately sprinkle the dipped truffles with red and blue sanding sugars before the coating sets, giving a festive, patriotic look.
  8. Setting: Place the decorated truffles on a parchment-lined tray and allow them to set at room temperature or in the refrigerator until the coating is firm and dry.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened to make mixing easier and avoid lumps.
  • If you don’t have sanding sugars, colored sprinkles or edible glitter can work as a festive alternative.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • For quicker setting, place the tray in the freezer for 10-15 minutes after dipping and decorating.
