Description
These Smash Burger Tacos combine the juicy, flavorful patties of classic smash burgers with the convenience and fun of street tacos. Cooked on a Blackstone griddle, the beef is seasoned, smashed for maximum crust, and topped with melty American cheese, then nestled inside small flour tortillas. Finished with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and a tangy burger sauce, these tacos are a delicious twist on two comfort food favorites.
Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Seasoning
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 small onion, finely diced (optional)
Tortillas and Cheese
- 8 small flour tortillas (street taco size)
- 8 slices American cheese (or cheddar/pepper jack)
Toppings
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 large tomato, diced
- 1/2 cup sliced pickles (or jalapeños)
- 1/2 cup burger sauce (made from mayo, ketchup, relish, hot sauce mix)
Cooking Fats
- 2 tbsp butter (for griddle)
- Cooking spray or oil as needed
Instructions
- Season Beef: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and form the mixture into 8 loose balls, being careful not to overwork the meat for tender patties.
- Preheat Griddle: Heat your Blackstone griddle to medium-high heat and melt the butter evenly across the cooking surface, adding cooking spray or oil if necessary to prevent sticking.
- Smash Patties: Place the beef balls on the hot griddle spaced apart. Immediately smash each ball flat using a spatula to form thin patties. If using, sprinkle the diced onions onto each patty right away to cook alongside.
- Add Tortillas: Press one flour tortilla gently onto each smashed patty. Let them cook for 2–3 minutes until the bottom side starts to turn golden and crispy, then flip the entire patty with tortilla.
- Add Cheese: Quickly top each patty with a slice of American cheese (or your choice) and continue cooking for about 1 minute until the cheese melts and the tortillas are golden and crisped.
- Assemble Tacos: Remove the patties with tortillas from the griddle. Top each taco with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, sliced pickles or jalapeños, and drizzle with burger sauce. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy.
Notes
- Use parchment paper between the spatula and beef balls when smashing for easier cooking and simple cleanup.
- Substitute corn tortillas for a gluten-free option or use plant-based ground meat to accommodate dietary preferences.
