Description

Classic and irresistible pigs in a blanket made with crescent roll dough wrapped around cocktail-sized sausages, baked to golden perfection, and optionally brushed with a savory garlic butter for an extra burst of flavor. Perfect as a party appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tube (8 ounces) crescent roll dough
  • 24 links cocktail-sized sausages
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Garlic Butter (Optional but Recommended)

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Dough Strips: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough lengthwise in half, then cut each half into twelve 2-inch strips, totaling 24 strips.
  3. Wrap Sausages: Place one cocktail sausage on each dough strip. Roll the dough tightly around the sausage until it is completely wrapped, ensuring no gaps.
  4. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the wrapped sausages on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow even baking.
  5. Egg Wash: Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the outside of each wrapped sausage with the beaten egg to help achieve a beautiful golden-brown crust.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is fully cooked and golden brown.
  7. Prepare Garlic Butter: While baking, combine melted butter, garlic powder, chopped fresh parsley, and ground black pepper in a small bowl, mixing well.
  8. Brush Garlic Butter: As soon as the pigs in a blanket come out of the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture to infuse extra flavor.
  9. Serve: Serve the pigs in a blanket warm, accompanied by ketchup and mustard or your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh crescent roll dough and fresh sausages.
  • Adjust baking time slightly depending on your oven and dough thickness.
  • The garlic butter is optional but adds a rich, savory flavor that enhances the appetizer.
  • These can be made ahead and reheated in the oven before serving.
  • Try different sausages like spicy or cheese-filled for a twist.
  • Serve with a variety of dipping sauces such as honey mustard, ranch, or barbecue sauce.
