For the Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry mix)

For Garnish:

  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. Beat the eggs in another bowl. Dip chicken pieces in eggs, then coat with the cornstarch-flour mixture.
  2. Fry the Chicken: Heat 1/4 cup vegetable oil in a skillet. Fry chicken until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a pan, sauté ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Add sugars, soy sauce, orange juice, zest, and vinegar. Simmer and thicken with cornstarch slurry.
  4. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Toss fried chicken in the sauce. Simmer to coat evenly.
  5. Serve: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving hot.
