Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Mixture
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (low-moisture)
Spices
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp paprika (smoked or sweet)
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp salt
Dry Ingredients
- ¼ cup almond flour (or 1 tbsp coconut flour + extra egg white)
Wet Ingredients
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Mix Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cheddar, shredded low-moisture mozzarella, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, almond flour, and the large egg. Stir together until a dough forms. If the mixture is too wet, add 1 teaspoon of almond flour; if too dry, add a small splash of cream or some extra egg white to adjust the consistency.
- Shape Dough: Wet your hands to prevent sticking, then roll the dough into 12 equal-sized balls, approximately 1 inch each. Place the balls spaced at least 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet to allow even baking.
- Bake: Bake the cheese puffs in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they turn golden brown on the outside.
- Cool: Remove from the oven and let the puffs cool on the tray for about 5 minutes. They will firm up as they cool, making them easier to handle and enhancing the texture.
Notes
- Use freshly shredded cheese rather than pre-shredded for the best puff texture and flavor.
- Let the cheese come to room temperature before mixing to help it blend more easily with other ingredients.
- Wet your hands when shaping the dough balls to avoid sticky messes.
- Extra dough or baked puffs can be frozen for future snacks; reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for about 5 minutes to restore crispiness.
