Scale
Sauce Ingredients
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (light sodium)
- 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter (unsweetened)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or honey)
- 1 tablespoon chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon miso paste
Thickening Mixture
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Combine Sauce Ingredients: Add all the sauce ingredients—soy sauce, natural peanut butter, maple syrup, chili sauce, molasses, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, black pepper, and miso paste—into a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Whisk everything together to combine thoroughly.
- Heat and Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium to keep it simmering gently, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Prepare Thickening Mixture: In a separate small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch completely in the water to create a slurry. This will help prevent lumps when added to the sauce.
- Thicken the Sauce: Whisk the cornstarch slurry into the simmering sauce. Continue cooking while stirring frequently until the sauce begins to thicken and coat the back of a spoon.
- Adjust Consistency: If the sauce becomes too thick, gradually add boiling water one tablespoon at a time to reach your desired consistency.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the sauce to cool. It will thicken further as it cools. Serve as a flavorful dipping sauce or incorporate it into stir-fry dishes for added depth and richness.
Notes
- Use light sodium soy sauce to control saltiness.
- Natural unsweetened peanut butter gives authentic flavor without added sugars.
- Adjust chili sauce quantity to control the heat level.
- For a vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Reheat gently before serving, adding water if necessary to loosen the sauce.
