Description

These Ham and Cheese Sliders are a crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring savory deli ham and melted Swiss cheese nestled inside soft Hawaiian sweet rolls. The sliders are brushed with a flavorful buttery poppy seed glaze and baked to golden perfection, making them perfect for game day, parties, or easy family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Rolls and Filling

  • 1 12-count package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1/2 pound deli-sliced ham
  • 1/2 pound sliced Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard (optional)

Butter Glaze

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sliders.
  2. Slice rolls: Carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally, separating the top and bottom halves, but keep the rolls together in a slab.
  3. Arrange bottom half: Place the bottom half of the rolls into a 9×13-inch baking dish, creating the base for your sliders.
  4. Spread mayonnaise (optional): If using, spread a thin, even layer of mayonnaise over the bottom half of the rolls for added moisture and flavor.
  5. Layer ham: Arrange all of the deli-sliced ham evenly over the bottom rolls, ensuring full coverage for every slider.
  6. Add Swiss cheese: Place a layer of sliced Swiss cheese over the ham, allowing it to melt nicely inside the sliders.
  7. Spread Dijon mustard (optional): If using, spread the Dijon mustard evenly on the inside of the top half of the rolls to add tanginess.
  8. Assemble sandwich slab: Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese layer, completing your sandwich slab.
  9. Make butter glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, onion powder, and garlic powder until well combined.
  10. Brush tops: Pour the butter mixture evenly over the top of the sandwich slab, spreading gently with a brush or spoon to coat all the tops.
  11. Cover and bake: Loosely cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning and bake for 15 minutes.
  12. Uncover and bake: Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 5 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and buttery.
  13. Rest sliders: Remove from oven and let the sandwich sit for 5 minutes, allowing the cheese to set and flavors to meld.
  14. Slice and serve: Carefully slice between each roll to create individual sliders and serve warm for the best taste experience.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce to the butter glaze.
  • You can substitute Swiss cheese with cheddar or provolone for a different flavor profile.
  • These sliders are best served fresh but can be reheated covered with foil to retain moisture.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free rolls if needed to accommodate dietary restrictions.
  • Leftover sliders can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
