Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 1 (20 oz) package refrigerated shredded hash browns
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
Filling
- 4 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup half & half
- 1 cup chopped or diced ham
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Remove excess moisture: Press the hash browns between thick layers of paper towels until all the excess moisture is removed. Repeat this process if necessary to ensure the potatoes are dry for a crispy crust.
- Prepare the crust mixture: Place the dried hash browns into a mixing bowl. Add the melted butter and toss everything together to evenly coat the potatoes with butter.
- Form the crust: Transfer the buttered hash browns into a 9-inch pie plate. Press them evenly over the bottom and up the sides of the dish to create a uniform crust layer.
- Bake the crust: Place the pie plate in an oven preheated to 450°F (230°C). Bake the crust for 20-25 minutes until it turns golden brown and begins to crisp up.
- Mix the filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the beaten eggs, half & half, chopped ham, sliced green onions, and shredded cheddar cheese. Stir well to evenly blend all ingredients.
- Add the filling to the crust: Pour the egg and ham mixture into the pre-baked hash brown crust, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake the quiche: Lower the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C). Bake the quiche for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and puffed. To confirm it is fully cooked, insert a toothpick in the center — it should come out clean.
Notes
- Pressing the hash browns to remove moisture is crucial for a crispy crust.
- You can substitute half & half with whole milk or cream for varying richness.
- Feel free to add your favorite herbs or vegetables for extra flavor.
