Ingredients
Scale
Beef Mixture
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
Sauce
- 1 packet (0.87 oz) brown gravy mix
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 can (10 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup sour cream
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley
Noodles
- 1 bag (12 oz) wide egg noodles
- 1 teaspoon salt (for boiling water)
Instructions
- Boil Water: Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. This will be used to cook the egg noodles later.
- Cook Ground Beef Mixture: In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the lean ground beef, finely diced onion, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook and crumble the beef until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease or liquid.
- Prepare Gravy: In a bowl, whisk together the brown gravy mix with 1 cup cold water until smooth. Pour this gravy mixture into the cooked ground beef in the skillet.
- Add Creamy Ingredients: Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream into the skillet with the beef and gravy. Mix well to combine into a creamy sauce.
- Simmer Sauce: Reduce heat to medium or medium-low. Let the beef and sauce mixture simmer gently while you cook the noodles, about 10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
- Cook Noodles: Add 1 teaspoon salt to the boiling water. Cook the wide egg noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles thoroughly, do not rinse.
- Combine Noodles and Sauce: Add the cooked egg noodles and dried parsley into the skillet with the creamy beef mixture. Stir everything together until well combined and heated through.
- Serve: Plate the stroganoff immediately and enjoy this hearty, creamy dish.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce grease and create a healthier dish.
- Do not rinse the noodles after draining to preserve their starchiness, which helps the sauce cling better.
- Adjust seasoning (salt and pepper) as needed according to taste.
- This dish can be garnished with fresh parsley for added color and flavor.
- For a thicker sauce, simmer a little longer to reduce the liquid.
