Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Dairy
- 450g lean ground beef
- 30g butter
- 225g provolone cheese, chopped or shredded
- 30g butter (for toasting buns)
Vegetables
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 230g brown mushrooms, minced
Other Ingredients
- 30g ketchup
- 240ml beef broth
- 6 brioche hamburger buns
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Brown the beef: Heat a pan over medium-high heat and brown the lean ground beef until fully cooked. Once browned, remove the meat from the pan and set it aside to keep warm.
- Sauté the vegetables: In the same pan, melt 30g of butter. Add the diced yellow onion, green bell pepper, and minced brown mushrooms. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are browned and softened.
- Make the sauce: In a small bowl, mix beef broth, ketchup, cornstarch, salt, and pepper until smooth. Pour this mixture into the sautéed vegetables in the pan and simmer until the sauce thickens and coats the veggies nicely.
- Combine beef and sauce: Return the browned ground beef to the pan with the thickened vegetable sauce. Stir well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
- Melt the cheese: Turn off the heat and fold in the chopped provolone cheese, stirring until the cheese melts into the beef and vegetable mixture, creating a creamy texture.
- Toast the buns: Spread butter on the brioche hamburger buns and toast them in a separate pan over medium heat until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.
- Assemble and serve: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture generously onto the toasted brioche buns. Serve immediately while warm for the best flavor and experience.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat and grease in the dish.
- You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or American cheese if preferred.
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the sauce mixture.
- Toast the buns just before assembling to prevent sogginess.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated on the stovetop or microwave.
