Ingredients
Scale
Meatloaf
- 1 cup Plain breadcrumbs
- 2 pounds Ground beef (80/20 fat content preferred)
- 1 medium Onion (grated)
- 1 large Egg
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon Garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- ½ teaspoon Black pepper
Glaze
- ¼ cup Ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Packed brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the meatloaf evenly.
- Mix Meatloaf Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, grated onion, egg, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and breadcrumbs. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are fully incorporated to ensure even seasoning.
- Shape the Loaf: Shape the meat mixture into a loaf approximately 2 inches thick and place it on a foil-lined baking sheet for easy cleanup.
- Initial Bake: Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to begin cooking through.
- Prepare Glaze: While the meatloaf bakes, whisk together ketchup, brown sugar, and 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl to create the glaze.
- Glaze and Continue Baking: After 30 minutes, remove the meatloaf from the oven and spread the prepared glaze evenly over the top. Return the meatloaf to the oven to bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Check Doneness: Use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature, which should reach 165 degrees F for safe consumption. If it hasn’t reached this temperature, bake for 5 more minutes and check again.
- Rest and Serve: Once done, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes to allow juices to redistribute. Then slice and serve warm.
Notes
- Using higher fat content ground beef (80/20) helps keep the meatloaf moist.
- Resting the meatloaf after baking ensures juicy slices and prevents crumbling.
- You can line the baking sheet with foil or parchment paper for easier cleanup.
- An instant-read thermometer is the best way to ensure the meatloaf is safely cooked through.
- Feel free to add herbs like parsley or thyme for additional flavor if desired.
