Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 1.5 pounds yellow potatoes, steamed and cubed
Sausage
- 12 ounces precooked sausage of choice, sliced
Vegetables
- 2 bell peppers of choice, cut into small pieces
- 1 yellow onion, cut into small pieces
Seasoning & Oil
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt, plus more to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven (if using oven): Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a baking sheet inside the oven to heat up while the oven preheats. This hot baking sheet will help the hash cook and brown more efficiently once placed inside.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the steamed and cubed yellow potatoes, sliced precooked sausage, chopped bell peppers, and diced yellow onion. Toss everything with the olive oil and garlic salt to evenly coat all ingredients.
- Oven Method: Carefully remove the hot baking sheet from the oven and line it with parchment paper. Spread the potato mixture evenly on the parchment. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, then stir the hash to promote even cooking. Continue baking for another 10 minutes or until the peppers and onions are tender and the potatoes and sausage are nicely browned.
- Stovetop Method: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the combined potato mixture and cook for approximately 25 minutes, stirring 2-3 times throughout to ensure even browning. Cook until the peppers and onions are tender and the potatoes and sausage are golden and crispy.
- Air Fryer Method: Hold off on adding the chopped sausage initially. Place the potato, pepper, and onion mixture in the air fryer basket and cook at 375°F for 10 minutes. Stir the mixture, then add the chopped sausage. Continue air frying at 350°F for another 5 minutes or until the potatoes and sausage develop a crispy texture.
Notes
- For steaming potatoes quickly, cut them into smaller cubes and steam them until just tender to save time.
- Frozen diced potatoes can be used as a convenient substitute for fresh steamed potatoes.
- Frozen mixed bell peppers can replace fresh peppers if desired; just thaw before combining.
- Adjust garlic salt seasoning according to taste preferences.
