Description

A timeless Classic Marble Cake with a moist, tender crumb combining vanilla and chocolate batters swirled together to create a beautiful marbled pattern. Perfectly balanced in sweetness and texture, this cake is ideal for any occasion and simple enough for home bakers of all levels.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Sugar

  • 1 cup white sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan to ensure the cake releases easily after baking.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, sugar, milk, eggs, softened butter, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir slowly at first to moisten the ingredients.
  3. Beat Batter: Using an electric mixer, beat the mixture at medium speed for about 2 minutes until the batter becomes smooth and well combined.
  4. Divide Batter: Reserve ¾ cup of the batter into a separate bowl. Pour the remaining batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  5. Prepare Chocolate Batter: Stir the unsweetened cocoa powder into the reserved ¾ cup of batter until the color is uniform.
  6. Create Marble Effect: Drop spoonfuls of the chocolate batter over the vanilla batter in the pan. Use a knife to gently swirl the two batters together, creating a marbled pattern.
  7. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Test for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool briefly on a wire rack. Then invert it onto a serving plate or cooling rack and allow it to cool completely before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is softened to room temperature for easier mixing and better texture.
  • Do not overmix the batter once combined to keep the cake tender.
  • The marbling can be customized by swirling more or less depending on your visual preference.
  • This cake is best served at room temperature and can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, you can replace 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder with melted dark chocolate.
