Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 9 cups Chex cereal
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup festive sprinkles

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cereal: Measure 9 cups of Chex cereal and place it in a very large mixing bowl. Set aside while you prepare the chocolate mixture.
  2. Melt Chocolate Mixture: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt together 1/4 cup butter, 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, and 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter, stirring constantly to prevent burning and ensure a smooth blend.
  3. Add Vanilla: Once fully melted and combined, stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for added flavor.
  4. Combine with Cereal: Pour the warm chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal in three stages, folding gently after each addition to coat all the pieces evenly without crushing the cereal.
  5. Toss to Coat: Toss the cereal and chocolate mixture gently until every piece is thoroughly coated with the chocolate and peanut butter mixture.
  6. Prepare Sugar and Sprinkles: In a large, airtight plastic bag, combine 2 cups powdered sugar and 1 cup festive sprinkles. Shake to mix thoroughly.
  7. Coat with Sugar and Sprinkles: Add the chocolate-coated cereal in batches to the sugar and sprinkle mixture inside the bag. Toss gently by shaking the bag, coating each piece well, then transfer to a wax paper–lined rimmed baking sheet.
  8. Set the Mixture: Spread the coated cereal in a single layer on the lined baking sheet and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour to allow it to set.
  9. Serve and Store: After chilling, remove the Christmas Puppy Chow from the fridge. It can be kept at room temperature or chilled until ready to enjoy.
  10. Enjoy and Share: This festive treat is perfect for gift-giving or serving at holiday gatherings. Be sure to share your experience if you try the recipe!

Notes

  • Use a very large bowl to prevent spilling while mixing the cereal with the chocolate mixture.
  • Be gentle when folding and tossing the cereal to avoid breaking the pieces.
  • For extra festivity, choose themed sprinkles such as red, green, and white for Christmas.
  • Store leftover Puppy Chow in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
  • Chill time helps the coating to set and enhances the texture.
