- 2 tbsp melted butter (more if needed)
Instructions
- Proof the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 10 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a separate large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and 1/2 tsp salt to evenly distribute the salt through the flour.
- Combine wet and dry: Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add the olive oil and the yeast mixture to the flour bowl. Stir with a spatula until a rough dough ball forms.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 6 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour as needed if the dough feels sticky to prevent sticking.
- Let dough rise: Place the kneaded dough back into the mixing bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Shape breadsticks: After rising, remove the dough and press it flat with your hands. Use a pizza cutter to slice the dough into 14 equal pieces by first cutting in half, then each half into smaller pieces until you have 14.
- Preheat oven and prepare twists: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll each piece into a log and then twist them gently. Place the twisted breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the breadsticks: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown. While baking, melt the butter and mix the garlic powder, oregano, and basil to prepare the seasoning.
- Butter and season: When the breadsticks are done, remove them from the oven and immediately brush them generously with melted butter. Sprinkle the garlic and herb seasoning evenly over the top.
